Rickshaw Girl' screened at European Independent Film Festival

Bangladeshi filmmaker Amitabh Raza’s ‘Rickshaw Girl’ was screened in the online edition of The European Independent Film Festival in France. The film was screened on the last day of the festival took place in Paris, France, on April 10.

Academy of Film And Media, the festival offered a special screening of the film, according to Bibesh Roy, IAFM’s executive director.

This is the first time that a Bangladeshi film is being shown in this festival. So it is a moment of proud for the film world of Bangladesh ‘, Bibesh Roy added.

The IAFM press coordinator Anarya Murshid said, “European Independent Film Festival is an important film festival for independent filmmakers. It was the first time that a Bangladeshi film was screened at the festival. Alumni of the IAFM can submit a certain number of films to this festival without having to pay an entry fee.’

Bangladesh will soon have its own part of the festival which will be run by the IAFM.

Rickshaw Girl is about Naima, a traditional motifs painter, and her challenges. It is based on Mitali Perkins’ best-selling novel Rickshaw Girl, which was named one of the finest 100 children’s novels of the previous 100 years by the New York Public Library.

Rickshaw Girl is Amitabh Reza’s second feature film. Sharbari Z Ahmed, a Bangladesh-born American screenwriter has written the film’s screenplay. The film stars Novera Rahman, Naresh Bhuiyan, Allen Shubhro Gomes, Momena Chowdhury, Champa and others.
