Jaya starrer ‘Jhora Palok’ to screen at Kolkata Int’l Film Fest

Talented Bangladeshi actress Joya Ahsan-starrer film ‘Jhora Palok’ (The Epilogue), based on the life of eminent poet Jibananda Das, has been selected for special screening at Kolkata International Film Festival - KIFF 2022 in the Bengali Panorama section.

Directed by Sayantan Mukherjee, Jaya Ahsan is playing the role of Labnya Das in this film.

Jaya has confirmed the news on his verified Facebook account.

This year’s Kolkata international film festival will start on April 25 and end on May 1.

‘Jhora Palok’ follows the voice of poet Jibananda Das and attempts to depict his life through an imaginative visual representation of how he was attracted by poetry and explored his life on his own terms.

The film attempts to show how he achieves his position as a poet in the Bengali literary scene of the future, by interpreting his repertoire of works and his interactions with the so-called society of intellectuals.

The film ‘Jhora Palok’ was inspired by Jibanananda’s autobiographical novel ‘Malyaban’ .The ups and downs of his relationship with his wife Labanya Das was highlighted in that book.

Bratya Basu and Rahul Arunodaya Bandyopadhyay will be playing the different stages of Jibanananda Das in this film.

Besides, Devashankar Haldar will be portraying the role of poet Sajanikanta Das, while Kaushik Sen will be seen as poet Buddhadev Basu and Supriya Dutt will be playing the role of Kazi Nazrul Islam.

The Kolkata Film Festival which was started in the year 1995, was the culmination of a film society movement that drew its inspiration from the masters of Bengali Cinema - Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen.
