Kobiaal to stage its 1st play ‘Sukh’ at Shilpakala today

Kobiaal-a newly formed theatre troupe under Kobiaal Trust is going to stage the 11th show of its first theatrical production titled ‘Sukh’ an adaptation of Abdel Momein Selim’s ‘Marital Bliss’ today at 7pm at the Studio Theater Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the capital. 

Through the play, popular director and Professor, Department of Drama & Dramatics, Jahangirnagar University Dr A K M Yusuf Hassan, widely known as Yusuf Hassan Arko returned to acting after 7years. In the play, he will play the role of Kabir. He last acted in the play ‘Dui Je Chilo Ek Chakor’ by the troupe Natyakendra. 

Directed by Yusuf Hassan Arko the play ‘Shukh’ has been adapted by prominent theatre personality Tariq Anam Khan. 

The play portrays the witty relationship between a married couple, who always try to emphasize their own decisions, likes, and dislikes rather than communal. Their superiority behavior pushes them to be separate.  

Regarding his return to acting Arko said, “Almost after 7 years I have returned to acting. I always have a desire to act in a play, but due to the teaching, and direction of the play I could not manage time. Besides, I had an accident that caused me to stay in bed for about 2 years.”

“The play revolves around the witty relationship of husband-wife. The structure of this drama is very strong. Acting in the play is very challenging. Here, there are lots of opportunities to act. In the play I will play the role of a husband named Kabir”, he added.

The other cast of the play includes Shyama Bhattacharya, Monami Islam Kanak, Samiul Haque, and Habib Masud.

Yusuf Hassan Arko has been practicing theatre with a theatre group Natyakendra since 1991 where he acted, designed for numerous plays of the group. Ekolobbo Akhyan, Sheetayon, Totakahini, Kobi, Neelakhyan, Maatbring, Devdas, Bratto Aami Montrohin, Jera, Man of La Mancha, Boshikoron, Geeti Chondraboti, Dohondoyita  etc. are his accalaimed productions in Bangladesh.He is the Chairman of Kobiaal Trust.

Kobiaal Trust has been formed to guide the new generation in building communal harmony. Besides, the theatre troupe Kobiaal, Kobiaal Trust also aims to build an art school, library, and a studio theatre under a single compound.
