Renowned singer Runa Laila and actor Alamgir have been bestowed with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 19th Tele Cine Awards in Kolkata. The award ceremony was held at Nazrul Mancha on May 14.
The couple received the award in the presence of numerous artists from Kolkata and Bangladesh.
Runa Laila at the function said, “I think the Tele Cine Awards unites the artistes of two Bengals. Earlier, I’ve honoured with an award at the same stage. At that time legendary singer Sandhya Mukhopadhyay was present at the programme. This time I and Alamgir have been honoured with the award. This is a very joyful and precious moment for us. Thanks to the organisers.”
Alamgir expressed his feelings, saying, “Previously, I received the Uttam Kumar Award from Kolkata. However, receiving an award has become a common matter for me, but receiving this award is pleasant to me as my wife Runa Liala also bestowed with such prestigious honour along with me.”
Alamgir and Runa Laila went to Kolkata on Friday to attend the award ceremony. Apart from the two legendary artistes, the Tele Cine Awards churned out several conferees from Bangladesh including Arifin Shuvoo, singer Momotaz Begom, Azmeri Haque Badhon, Deepanwita Martin, and Mir Sabbir, among others.
Previously, the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ was given to Bangladeshi actors Nayak Raz Razzak and Babita.
The Tele Cine Awards, which began in 2000, are an awards ceremony for Bengali film and television serials organised by the Tele Cine Society. Since its beginning, the awards have been given to a number of Bangladeshi artists, musicians, and filmmakers for their contributions to their respective fields.
To note, melody queen Runa Laila tuned a song and singer Ankhi Alamgir lent vocal for the playback which was used in the film ‘Ekti Cinemar Golpo’ directed by actor Alamgir. Eminent lyricist Gazi Mazharul Anwar has penned down the song.
