In honour of their 25th anniversary, Shironamhin, one of Bangladesh’s most popular bands, has released the title track from their latest album ‘Perfume,’ along with an intriguing music video.
The music video received widespread praise less than 24 hours after its debut on Thursday.
The title track is based on the #MeToo movement. The music video juxtaposes Greek mythology with modern-day settings to raise awareness about victim-blaming. The video contains Greek mythical characters including Medusa and Zeus.
The music video was directed by the band’s bassist and leader, Ziaur Rahman. Shironamhin fans have been eagerly anticipating a new album for nearly a decade, and the song had piqued their interest since its announcement.
This is Shironamhin’s most expensive music video to date, with a budget of more than Tk 20 lakh.
On the same day, the band organised a program at the Westin Dhaka to announce the release of their new album, ‘Perfume’. The event was attended by Bangladesh Musical Bands Association (BAMBA) President Hamin Ahmed, George Lincoln D’Costa, from ‘Artcell’, Sheikh Monirul Alam Tipu from ‘Warfaze’, and Syed Ziaur Rahman Turjo from ‘Miles’.
The album’s launch was announced by Hamin Ahmed, who was joined on stage by the entire band. Following the announcement, Shironamhin performed several tracks from ‘Perfume’ for the audience members. Meanwhile, the mega-concert titled ‘The Only Headliner’—at which the band was supposed to perform with the world-famous Mumbai Symphony Orchestra at the ICCB Bashundhara Expo Zone in the capital on May 26—has been postponed to September 8.
The event had to be pushed back as the Mumbai Symphony Orchestra could not be in Bangladesh in time of the show due to visa issues. Shironamhin made this announcement on their official Facebook page recently. Their next show is in Kolkata, where they will be performing at Jadavpur University on May 29. This will be the first time Shironamhin is going to perform in India.
