Marking 123rd birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) arranged a discussion and cultural soiree on Wednesday.
International Mother Language Institute Director General Hakim Arif discussed the life and literary works of Nazrul while Shilpakala Academy Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky presided over the programme.
The cultural program featured solo and group performances, group dance and recitation. Noted Nazrul singers Sharmin Shathi Islam sang ‘Kalo Meyer Payer Tolay’, Chhanda Chakrabarty sang ‘Shondha Godhuli Logone’, Urbi Shom sang ‘Shokhi Badol’, Yakub Ali Khan sang ‘Bodhu Tomar Amar Ei Je Biroho’, Sheikh Jasim sang ‘Mor Priya Hobe Esho Rani’, Mofizur Rahman sang Kholo Go Ankhi, and Bijon Chandra Mistry sang Sada man Chahe.
Yasmin Mushtari, Nashid Kamal and Shovon Majumdar also performed solos.
Dhaka University Music Department and Jagannath University Music Department performed chorus ‘Jago Amrita Piyash’ and ‘Mora Jhanjhar Moto Uddam’ respectively. There were beautiful dance performances by noted dancers-choreographers Farhana Chowdhury Baby directed ‘Bagichay Bulbuli Tui’, Sohel Rahman directed ‘Beli Phul Ene Dao’, Munmun Ahmed directed ‘Ghono Mayamoy Shopone’.
Elocutionists Jayanta Chattapadhyay, Shimul Mustafa, Jharna Sarkar and Progga Laboni recited ‘Amar Kaifiyat’, and ‘Nari’ respectively. The event was hosted by Dilruba Sathi and Ahsanullah Tomal.
