Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) arranged a Three-minute Film Competition and Festival at the National Art Plaza Auditorium of BSA on June 3. The festival featured the screening of selected films followed by an award ceremony.

Presided over by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Abul Mansur inaugurated the festival, while State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid was present as chief guest. Secretary of the Academy Asaduzzaman delivered the welcome speech at the festival.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy announced the Three-minute Film Competition and Festival on November 25, 2021, and applications were accepted till February 26, 2022. About 200 films were submitted for the competition, and among those 64 films were selected. Of these, 8 were selected in the children section, 20 in the youth section, and 36 in the open section.

Participants were divided into three groups according to their age. Contestants up to 18 years of age participated in the children section, participants aged between 18 and 25 participated in the youth section, and individuals who are above 25 participated in the open for all sections.

The jury members for the competition comprise Teacher (Guest) of BCTI Sajjad Zaheer, General Secretary of Bangladesh Short Film Forum Rakibul Hasan, Assistant Director of Film and Theater Department of BSA Chakladar Mostafa Al Masood, filmmaker Manjare Hasin Murad, Zahidur Rahman Anjan, Akram Khan, and Afsana Karim.

A total of 13 prizes were given in three categories, 3 in the children Section, 5 in the youth section, and 5 in the open category. The first prize winner received Tk 50,000, the second prize winner received Tk 40,000, the third prize winner received Tk 30,000 in each group and the special jury award winners received Tk 20,000 in the children and open section.

The award-winning films of the children section are—‘Help’ by Syeda Abrar Toyaha, ‘Rikto’ by Aporajita Parin, and ‘Keo Dayi Noy’ by Farhanur Imtiaz; films of the youth section are-- ‘Kopotakkher Gaan’ by Subrota Kumar Munda, ‘Kalachor’ by Shariful Abir, ‘A Fobia’ by Pran Krisna Bonik, ‘Case 19119’ Nasiba Samarat and ‘Amriter Putro’ by Konoj Kanti Ray; films of open section are—‘Hisab Biggan’ by Monir Hossain, ‘An Expectation To Happiness’ by Jayed Siddique, ‘Gayeb’ by Md Abid Mollik, ‘Rocky the Sea Kid’ by Jogonmoy Pal, and ‘Lolat’ by Zahirul Islam Pulok.

After the award ceremony, dance performances were held. Artistes of BSA performed group dances with the song ‘Mongol Hok Ei Shatake’ directed by Irin Parveen, ‘Shubheccha O Bhalobasa’ by Snata Shahrin. Both of the performances were planned by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky.
