Indian state of Tripura will host staging of two dramas directed by Bangladeshi director Yusuf Hassan Arko in two theatre festival.

Theatre troupe Kobial will stage their production ‘Shukh’ on June 9 in the Shantanu Smriti International Theatre festival organised by Udaipur-based Little Drama Organization. At the same festival, drama and dramatics department at Jahangirnagar University will stage ‘Jera’ on June 10.

The two dramas will also be staged at ‘Natya Mohna 2022’ festival organised by Barnamala in Dharmanagar. There ‘Shukh’ and ‘Jera’ will be staged on June 11 and June 12 respectively.

“The organisers are requesting me to stage a drama in Tripura for long. First, we were supposed stage a drama at a festival but as two festivals are now taking place in Tripura. And, they requested us to stage our dramas at both the festivals,” said Yusuf Hassan Arko.

The story of ‘Shukh’ revolves around a couple who think materialistic life can bring them happiness. Thus, the couple starts to buy everything in pairs. At the end, they realise though they have everything but they lost the internal chemistry between them.

According to the director, the drama has a comical approach. The world is living a materialistic life. The drama will give a message that, now days we are so busy with this materialistic lifestyle that we often forget to search for the true happiness, he said.

‘Jera’ is based on an incident of liberation war, where a Rajakar picked up a mother of two who are freedom fighters, to interrogate her in custody as they found bombs hidden under her bed.

They kept interrogating her overnight but the next morning the news of surrendering of Pakistani troops reached the camp.

Apart from the direction, Yusuf Hassan Arko will be also acting in both the dramas. Apart from him, the dramas will cast Habib Masud, Monami Islam Konok, Rubaiya Jabin Priyota and Samiul Haq Bhuiyan. For the shows Elite High Tech Industries are sponsoring the theatre troupe Kobila.
