The 7th solo art exhibition by seasoned artist Bipad Bhanjan Sen Karmakar titled ‘Swadhinata’ is underway at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the capital.
The inaugural ceremony of the 15-day exhibition was held on the gallery premises on June 13, where State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid was present as chief guest. Presided over by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, Director General of Press Institute of Bangladesh Zafar Wazed was present as a special guest, and BSA’s Director of Fine Arts Syeda Mahbuba Karim delivered the welcome speech.
In his speech, KM Khalid said, “Those who have received the affection of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu, have grown up as brilliant people. Artist Bipad Bhanjan Sen Karmakar is a golden man who is loved by the father of the nation. Bipad Bhanjan Sen Karmakar has captured and nurtured Bangabandhu through his artistic being.”
The state minister then wished the artist a speedy recovery and assured necessary cooperation from the Ministry of Culture.
Artist Bipad Bhanjan Sen Karmaker was born in a family of jewelry artists in a village and was influenced by his mother who used to draw Alpana (traditional designs) at the time of Laxmi Puja while his father drew flowers on coloured papers for ornamental designs. This is how his parents nurtured his inspiration for painting. He then went on to study fine arts at the University of Dhaka.
His artistic thoughts were deeply influenced by his childhood memories of an ideal village, where he grew up in the midst of the river, canals, green fields, schools, temples, mosques, playgrounds, and peaceful coexistence between Hindu and Muslim communities.
The exhibition will remain open to all from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm (Saturday-Thursday), 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm (Friday), until June 27.
