Renowned theatre troupe Theatre is going to stage their new production ‘Pohale Sharbari’ today at 5:00pm and 7:00pm at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the capital.

The 3rd and 4th staging of the play will be at 5:00pm and 7:00pm respectively on June 2.

The play originally written by Surendra Verma and was first staged on 1972 under direction of Amol Palekar.

Anshuman Bhowmick translated the play in Bangla. Ramendu Majumdar directed the play and Tropa Majumdar contributed as a joint director. Independence Award winner Ferdousi Mazumder was the costume director of the play.

“We decided to bring this play on stage because of its content. We have tried to highlight the position of women in society in our multiple plays,” said Ramendu Majumdar.

“From ‘Madhavi’ of the Mahabharat to ‘Kokila’ of our time all have been used only to fulfil the needs of men. Similarly, 2000 years ago, in the crisis of the dynasty’s inheritance, the play will tell a story in which a woman is considered a mere machine to produce children without valuing her at all. Along with that, the play also shows how men became victims because of religious views and the political tactics,” he added.

Two artistes are playing in every role. The play will cast Gulshan Ara, Mahmuda Aktar, Nazmun Nahar, Tanvir Hossain Samdani, Tanvin Sweety, Samia Mohsin, Apon Ahsan, Noor-e-Khoda Mashuk Siddiki, Shekanul Islam, Mushfiqur Rahman, Sanirul Ahsan, Tanjum Ara, Rashedur Rahman, Robin Basak, Joarder Saif and others.
