Two Eminent figures of Bangladesh actress Sharmili Ahmed and music director and composer Alam Khan passed away on Friday. Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina, State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid, fans, followers and colleagues, mourned the demise of these popular figures of cultural arena.
Eminent Bangladeshi actress Sharmili Ahmed passed away at the age of 75 on Friday.
Shuborna Mustafa, another eminent actress and Member of Parliament, wrote in her Facebook post that the legendary actress breathed her last at her home this morning.
“My beautiful chachi, the great actor of our times Mrs Sharmili Ahmed breathed her last this morning at home. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” she wrote.
The entire acting fraternity has lost their beloved AMMA, the actress wrote.
Born in 1947 in Belur Chok village of Murshidabad, Sharmili started her career on radio in 1962 before making a foray into films 1964, and television four years later.
Sharmili acted in numerous television dramas, including ‘Dompoti’, the first drama serial in the history of Bangladesh TV, and also appeared in several films.
Some of her remarkable works are ‘Malancha’, ‘Dompoti’, ‘Agun’, ‘Abirvaab’, ‘Poush Phaguner Pala’, ‘Meherjaan’, ‘Abar Hawa Bodol’, ‘Brishtir Pore’, ‘Amader Ananda Bari’, ‘Anchol’, ‘Aguntuk’, ‘Poshak’, ‘Chheleti’, ‘Uposhonghar’, ‘Chena Manusher Panchalee’, and ‘Dhupchhay’.
She will be cherished and remembered for her remarkable contribution to Bangladesh’s cultural arena for over five decades.
On the other hand, legendary music director and composer Alam
Khan passed away in Dhaka on Friday. He was 79.
The five-time National Film Award-winning music director breathed his last around 11.30am, his family said.
“Father has left for the eternal journey. Inna lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun! (Quranic command used by Muslims when someone dies),” his son Arman wrote on social media.
Born on October 22 in 1943, Khan composed many popular songs which brought stardom to many actors and singers.
He was the composer of timeless songs like ’Jiboner Golpo Ache Baki Olpo’, ‘Ore Nil Doriya’ and ‘Ami
Rojonigondha Phuler Moto Gondho Biliye Jai’.
Among the popular songs he directed for Bangladeshi films are ‘Hayre Manush Rangin Fanus’, ‘Dak Diyachen Dayal Amare’, ‘Ki Jadu Karila’, ‘Tumi Jekhane Ami Shekhane’, ‘Sabai To Bhalobasa Chay’, “Chader Shathe Ami Debona’, ‘O Sathire Jeyona kokhono Dure’ and ‘Chumki Choleche Eka Pothe’.
Alam won his first National Film Award in 1972 for directing music in the film ‘Boro Bhalo Lok Chilo’ by Mohiuddin.
He later received the award again for films ‘Three Daughters’ (1985), ‘Surrender’ (1987), ‘Dinkal’ (1992) and ‘Ebadat’ (2009).
He also won the Best Music Composer Award for the films Bagher
Thaba (2005) and Ki Jadu Korila (2008).
Information Dr Hasan Mahmud expressed shock over demise of eminent actress Sharmili Ahmed and legendary musician Alam Khan on the same day. He prayed for peace of the departed souls and conveyed condolence to their families.
