National dance-drama festival begins at Shilpakala

Three-day national dance-drama festival has begun at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the capital.

The inaugural ceremony of the festival was held on July 20 evening at the National Theatre Hall of BSA and will continue on July 24 and 25. BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky presided over the festival and the director of the production department of BSA Sohaila Afsana Eco, delivered the welcome speech.

On the inaugural day, three dance dramas ‘Kobor’, ‘Proshongo 47’ and ‘Chandalika’ were staged. Deepa Khandakar has directed the dance-drama ‘Kobor’ based on Munir Chowdhury’s story ‘Kobor’. The drama stars Abdur Rashid Swapon, Ataur Rahman, Niloy Paal, Farah Shahwar Jhun jhun, Mehreen, Abdus Sattar and others.

Kathak Nritya Sampraday presented the dance-drama ‘Proshongo 47’ scripted and directed by Saju Ahmed. The drama stars Faisa Barsaat, Samyadip, Prova, Prodip Nath, Ramim, Radifa and others.

Anik Bose has directed ‘Chandalika’ based on Rabindranath Tagore’s dance-drama ‘Chandalika’. The drama stars Kasturi Mukherjee and Smita Dey.

The festival will be starting from 5 pm on July 24. Dhriti Nartanalaya will perform ‘Hajar Bochorer Bengali’ under Warda Rehab’s direction. ‘Baramkhana’ directed by Mahbub Hasan Sohag and performed by Amra Kajan Shilpigoshti Bogra will also take place. Sylhet Nrityashoilo will perform ‘Rupantar Gan’ directed by Nilanjana Jui and the dance drama ‘Kunjo Sajao Go’ directed by Sahida Rahman Surobhi will be performed by Bannishikha.

On the last day of the festival, on July 25, Sadhana Dance group will present ‘Mayar Khela’ directed by Lubna Maryam, while Nrityalok Cultural Center will present ‘Shyama’ directed by Kabirul Islam Ratan, Nandanik Dance Organization will present ‘Meher Negar’ directed by Nilufar Waheed Papri, Nritya Vihar will present ‘Rangila Nayer Majhi’ by Enamul Haque Bachchu.
