‘Hawa’ storms theatres today

Director Mejbaur Rahman Sumon’s much-anticipated film “Hawa” is releasing today in 24 theatres around the country.

Sumon is making his directorial debut on the silver screen with this film, which is poised to make an impact in the Bangladeshi film industry, according to critics.

The film’s cast has actors Chanchal Chowdhury, Nazifa Tushi, Shariful Islam Razz, Sumon Anowar, Shohel Mondol, Nasir Uddin Khan, Abdul Jabbar Chowdhury, Mahmud Hasan and Bablu Bose in key roles.

According to media reports, the tickets for the film’s premier show and even for the next couple of days have been already sold out.

The film is confirmed to have 26 shows in total at all five branches of Star Cineplex every day.

This is the first time in the history of Star Cineplex that a Bangladeshi film will get this many shows upon its release.

Many said Star Cineplex’s website crashed a few times because of too much traffic as thousands of people tried to buy the film’s tickets online at once.

The promotional campaign for “Hawa” has been very successful so far, with one of its songs — titled “Shada Shada Kala Kala” — going viral after it was released earlier this month. Popular band Meghdol’s “E Hawa” also boosted the level of success.

“We are trying our best to make every step count. Our team gave 100 per cent effort and I think the audience’s anticipation for the film has already peaked,” said director Sumon.

Over the past few weeks, the “Hawa” team held several unconventional promotional events, including programmes at different university campuses.

As part of the campaign to promote the film, a special programme titled “Hawa Adda” hosted by actor Jaya Ahsan also aired on Maasranga Television on Thursday night.

The 24 theatres where the film will be screened until further notice include all five branches of Star Cineplex in Dhaka city, Shyamoli Cinema, Madhumita Cinema Hall, Lion Cinemas, Savar Sena Auditorium, CineScope Narayanganj, Silver Screen and Sugondha Cinema Palace in Chattogram, Shankha Cinema and Liberty Cineplex in Khulna, Rupkotha Cinema Hall in Pabna, Roots Cine Club at Sirajganj, Shapla Cinema Hall in Rangpur, Modhuban Cineplex and Momo cinema hall in Bogura, Chayaban Cinema Hall in Mymensingh, Borsha Cinema Hall in Gazipur, and Grand Sylhet Cineplex in Sylhet.

Grand Sylhet Cineplex is the first such theatre in Sylhet and it will start its journey with “Hawa” today.
