The curtain was raised at the 23rd Young Artists’ Art Exhibition 2022 at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Dhaka’s Segunbagicha on Wednesday.
Organised by the BSA’s fine arts department, the biennial exhibition this year will showcase 422 artworks by 356 artists under 11 categories, namely painting, printmaking, sculpture, oriental art, pottery, craft, graphic design, photography, installation art, performance art and new media.
These were chosen from 2,034 artworks submitted by 1,019 artists, organisers had said at a press conference held at the National Art Gallery on Tuesday.
The exhibition is open to all. It will continue till August 25, every day from 11pm to 8pm at galleries 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, and the Sculpture Art Gallery.
Wednesday’s inauguration at National Art Gallery Auditorium was followed by another ceremony in which the winners of the 23rd Young Artists’ Art Exhibition were awarded.
Presided over by BSA Director General (DG) Liaquat Ali Lucky, Planning Minister MA Mannan inaugurated the event as chief guest, while Cultural Affairs State Minister KM Khalid, art critic Professor Nazrul Islam and artist Dr Farida Zaman were present as special guests.
The best artist among all mediums received Tk 1 lakh, a medal, crest and certificate, while each of the best artists from 11 mediums of fine arts (painting, printmaking, sculpture, oriental art, crafts, pottery, graphic design, photography, installation art, performance art and new media art) including photography received Tk 50,000, a crest, certificate and a catalogue.
An important and interesting addition to the 23rd Young Artists’ Art Exhibition 2022 is the organization of specially curated exhibitions.
Participants from 10 educational institutes — Dhaka University, Chittagong University, Rajshahi University, Jahangirnagar University, Khulna University, Jagannath University, Narayanganj Arts Institute, University of Development Alternative, the Shanta Mariam University of Creative Technology and Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University — are taking part in these thematically curated exhibitions at Gallery No 3 of the National Art Gallery.
BSA hopes that these specially curated exhibitions, the brainchild of BSA DG Lucky, will bring a new message of joy and thought to artists, art lovers, and visitors.
