Eminent singer Nirmala Mishra passed away at her residence in Chetla, Kolkata on Saturday night. She was 81-year-old and wasn’t keeping well for some time.
According to Times of India, the singer was having breathing problem and was almost bedridden for a long time and unable to speak since last month.
As, her condition deteriorated and the singer breathed her last at 12.05 am after suffering a massive heart attack, said the doctor.
Singer-music composer Jeet Gaangulii, director Raj Chakraborty and many others expressed their deepest grief. Her father Pandit Mohinimohana Mishra and brother were noted singers.
‘Emon Ekta Jhinuk Khunje Pelam Na’, ‘O Tota Pakhi Re’, ‘Tomar Akash Duti Chokhe’ and others are some of the most popular from a long list of songs. Besides, playback in Bengali films and singing Adhunik Gaan (modern songs), the noted singer gave several hit songs in Odia movies. The eminent singer was honoured with Banga Bibhushan, Sangeet Samman and other prestigious awards. She is a recipient of the Sangeet Sudhakar Balakrushna Das Award for her contribution to Odia music.
