Renowned Bangladeshi singer Lisa Kalam is set to be officially listed on the Guinness World Records for her album ‘Mujib 100 Songs’. The album has a total of 100 songs dedicated to the life and works of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The tracks were released on her official YouTube channel titled Lisa Kalam yesterday (August 1) marking the national month of mourning which commemorates the brutal killing of Bangabandhu and most of his family members on the fateful night of August 15, 1975.
Lisa recently told several media house that she had contacted the Guinness World Records authority and received an official response. She claimed the official email from Guinness stated that there is no record of singing a hundred songs on any national leader not only in Bangladesh but also in the entire world.
She also informed the press that Guinness World Records has a lengthy and complicated application process and the application process is under way.
“It took 32 years of dedication to sing 100 songs on Bangabandhu. I moved to modern music for a while after 1998. I was regular up until 2004-2005. In 2010, I had a solo music show on BTV on Bangabandhu’s songs on the instructions of the Honourable Prime Minister. That was my last show. Since then I have stayed away from music due to various reasons including family life. I have had many hit songs among the Bangladeshi audience. But most of my popular songs are about Bangabandhu,” the singer said.
The lyrics of these songs were written by veteran musicians like Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury, Abdul Latif, Ashraful Alam, Gazi Mazharul Anwar, Rahat Khan, Kabi Abu Zafar Siddiqui, Fazlul Haque Khan, Ferdous Hossain Bhuiyan, Hasan Matiur Rahman, Sardar Ashraf Uddin Babul, Nuruzzaman Sheikh, Subrata Sen Gupta, Shyamal Dutta, Solaiman Khwajapari, Kavi Shahjahan, Debashish Sarkar, Shihab Shahriar and many others.
The tracks were composed by Debu Bhattacharya, Abdul Latif, Sheikh Mohitul Haque, Sheikh Sadi Khan, Badrul Alam Bakul, Md. Shahnewaz, Subrata Sen Gupta, Ashraf Uddin Babul, Ujjal Sinha,
Mujibul Haque Sentu, Avinash Sheel, Shaheed Mahmud and many more.
Lisa published around 80-90 tracks dedicated to Bangabandhu until the 90s. After a long hiatus, Lisa has returned to the music scene to complete her cherished album ‘Mujib 100 Songs’. She shot to fame with her 1991 album on Bangabandhu’s brutal killing ‘E Laash Dhaka Ashbei’ and its title track.
Her cover of the popular Sabina Yasmin track ‘Jodi Raat Pohale Shona Jeto’ also became very popular during that period.
