Rafi’s ‘Damal’ gets censor clearance

‘Poran’ famed filmmaker Raihan Rafi’s latest film ‘Damal’ received censor certificate from by Bangladesh Film Censor Board (BFCB) recently. The censor board arranged a screening of the film on August 8 and the preview committee members decided to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC), said Md Mominul Haque, secretary of the Censor Board.

Produced by Impress Telefilm LTD, the film’s star-studded cast includes Siam Ahmed, Sariful Razz and Bidya Sinha Saha Mim as the central characters of ‘Damal.’

Raihan Rafi recently told the press that no other country in the world has a story like the one in this film. He also said that the film was very expensive to make and they had to shoot in various locations of Sayedpur, Rangpur in North Bengal.

The director also said that they also had to spend a huge time on the film’s VFX and he is hopeful that ‘Damal’ will turn out to be something great.

The film will depict a contrast between the legendary Swadhin Bangla Football team with another from this era. Saeed Babu, Rashed Mamun Apu, Sumit, Shahnaz Sumi, Syed Nazmus Sakib, and many others will star in the film.

Inspired by true events, the storyline of ‘Damal’ was conceptualized by the film’s producer Faridur Reza Sagar, managing director of Impress Telefilm Ltd and Channel i.

The film’s director Raihan Rafi and famous Bangladeshi author Nazim Ud Daula have paired to develop its screenplay. ‘Damal’ hopes to showcase some of the historical chain of events by the legendary Swadhin Bangla Football team.

Formed in June 1971, the Bangladeshi football team played a total of 16 matches in different locations, earning a total of Tk 5 lakh at that time. The team decided to donate this amount to the Liberation War efforts.

After the month-long blockbuster run of Rafi’s ‘Poran’, Bangladeshi film enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for his upcoming venture ‘Damal’.
