The teaser of Ishaan Khatter starrer ‘Pippa’ was released yesterday marking India’s 76th Independence Day. The film will be released on December 2 this year.
‘Pippa’ (named after the Russian amphibious tank used in the 1971 war) is a heroic tank battle film that underscores the bravery of Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta (played by Ishaan), a veteran of the 45th Cavalry tank squadron, who, along with his siblings, fought on the eastern front during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971.
Directed by Raja Menon, the teaser starts with the date ‘3rd December 1971’ showing on the screen, while the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi declares war on Pakistan, after its attack on India’s airfields. After that, there is a sneak peek of Ishaan, Mrunal, Priyanshu, and Soni Rajdan’s characters. Ishaan is seen sporting the army uniform, while he joins his fellow men as they rage war on Pakistan. His character, Captain Balram Singh Mehta is heard saying in Hindi that throughout history, no war has been fought for another country’s Independence. However, he says, as he motivates his men, that this is their chance to create history.
According to the film’s producer Siddharth Roy Kapur, “the Bangladesh Liberation War is often heralded as the only ‘just war’ in history because it was fought to save lives and to free a nation.”
The film is produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur with RSVP Movies and Roy Kapur Films. The music for the film is done by Oscar-winning Indian composer AR Rahman.
