‘Damal’ releases official trailer

The official trailer of acclaimed Bangladeshi filmmaker Raihan Rafi-directed ‘Damal’ was finally released on Tuesday night. Just after its release, the trailer grabbed the audience’s attention and the film became the central talking point among Bangladeshi netizens.

The film is based on a true event and follows the story of two football teams from two different timelines: the legendary Swadhin Bangla Football Team and a similar team from the present.

The two-minute trailer begins with a husky background voice and has smooth transitions between scenes of the Liberation War and of the football sequences. It also features Sariful Razz in a tremendous bicycle-kicking shot of a football, and Siam Ahmed dribbling with the football.

After an impressive performance in ‘Poran,’ Bidya Sinha Saha Mim took away the spotlight in the ‘Damal’ trailer as well with her strong performance in the last scene.

While the trailer was thoroughly entertaining, with its splendid voice-over, cinematography, and colour grading, the film is also raising the expectation level of the audience.

Released on Tuesday night from the verified YouTube channel of Channel-i, in less than a 24hours the trailer made it up to the trending list of YouTube. The trailer got 311,284 views, more than 20 thousand likes and 2,215 comments on YouTube till 3:30 pm on Wednesday.

Produced by Impress Telefilm Ltd the film stars Siam Ahmed, Sariful Raaz, Bidya Sinha Mim, Sumit Sen Gupta, Shahnaz Sumi, Intekhab Dinar, and others.

Inspired by true events, the storyline of ‘Damal’ was conceptualized by the film’s producer Faridur Reza Sagar, managing director of Impress Telefilm Ltd and Channel i.

The film’s director Raihan Rafi and famous Bangladeshi author Nazim Ud Daula have paired to develop its screenplay. ‘Damal’ hopes to showcase some of the historical chain of events by the legendary Swadhin Bangla Football team.

Formed in June 1971, the Bangladeshi football team played a total of 16 matches in different locations, earning a total of Tk 5 lakh at that time. The team decided to donate this amount to the Liberation War efforts.

After the month-long blockbuster run of Rafi’s last film ‘Poran’, Bangladeshi film enthusiasts are now eagerly waiting for his upcoming venture ‘Damal’.
