‘Orphan: First Kill’ is now screening at Cineplex

Psycho-thriller ‘Orphan: First Kill’ is having its global release today. The film will also be released on the same day at all four branches of capital’s Star Cineplex.

Esther will be seen wrapped in velvet ribbons and spattered with blood as she practices her role as the dutiful daughter of unsuspecting parents.

‘First Kill’ is set to turn back the clock to focus on the story of Esther’s (whose real name is Leena Klammer) first victims. The film follows Leena as she impersonates Esther Albright, the missing daughter of the couple Tricia and Allen (Julia Stiles and Rossif Sutherland), and sows discord between the two as Katie grows suspicious of the child.

Financed by eOne, Dark Castle Entertainment, Sierra/Affinity and Eagle Vision, it serves as a prequel to the 2009 film Orphan and stars Isabelle Fuhrman reprising her role from the previous film, with Julia Stiles and Rossif Sutherland also starring.

Originally with the working title of ‘Esther,’ the project was announced in February 2020. The official title was revealed in November that same year, with Fuhrman reprising her role as Esther, co-starring alongside Stiles, Sutherland and Matthew Finlan. Filming took place in Winnipeg from November to December 2020.

It will also be available for streaming in the US via Paramount+ app. The film received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for the film’s twists, practical effects, and Fuhrman’s performance, but criticism for its story and inconsistencies.
