Theatre troupe Prachyanat is going to stage their 37th production ‘Khwabnama’ at the National Theatre Hall at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Shegunbagicha at 7:00pm today.
Directed by Kazi Toufiqul Islam Emon, the play is an adaption of the eminent fiction writer Akhtaruzzaman Elias’s much-acclaimed novel with the same title. The play has been adapted by Shaokat Hossain.
The play revolves around the lives of people during the partition in 1947. The play portrays socio-political issues, sectarian violence, the conflict between peasants and landlords and others.
“Parchyanat has completed its 20 years on stage and before celebrating our silver jubilee, we planned to do something in a larger context that prompted us to work on ‘Khwabnama’. This novel is mainly written about some events before and after the partition of the subcontinent in 1947. The story revolves around a small and remote town in Bogra district. An attempt has been made to highlight a part of the history of Bangladesh through the lives of the people. The novel gives a picture of the lives of people at different levels of social interaction in this continent,” said the director.
“I wanted to present the life of common people, class discrimination and conflict, helplessness, anger, lust, religious and ethnic hatred, Tevaga movement, tensions of partition, beliefs or superstitions of rural towns on stage as there are many untold stories of countless nameless people scattered all over rural Bengal,” he added.
