‘JK 1971’ wins Best Historic Film award at MIFF

National Film Award-winning director, Fakhrul Arefeen Khan’s film, ‘JK 1971’, has won the Best Historic Film award at the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF).

The film is based on a true incident, of Jean Kay, a young Frenchman, who hijacked a plane of Pakistan International Airlines just after the vehicle took off on December 3, 1971, in Paris and demanded 20 tonnes of emergency child medicine for Bangladeshi refugees during the Liberation War.

“Most of us don’t know about Jean Kay. To tell his story, we made this film. Through Mumbai International Film Festival a lot of people now know about him. I hope, many more will get to know about this friend of Bangladesh,” said the director regarding the award at MIFF.

The film also marks the first English-language film in the country based on the history of the Liberation War.

Co-produced by Gorai Films and Tanvir A Mishuk, the film features American Francisco Raymond, West Bengal’s Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Sourav Shuvro Das, Indrajit Mazumder; Russian actors Deria Gvrusenko, Nikolai Novominaski, and 36 foreign artists from the US, UK, and Spain.

Renowned screenwriter Masum Reza and director Arefeen worked on the screenplay of the film.

‘JK 1971’ is expected to get its theatrical release very soon.
