An 11-day exhibition titled ‘Let No One Mistake Us for the Fruit of Violence’ is now underway at Drik Gallery in the capital. The inauguration ceremony of the exhibition was held on August 19 at DrikPath Bhobon.
The exhibition is a part of the ongoing ‘M3: Man, Male and Masculinity’ project of the Goethe-Institute Bangladesh in collaboration with the Drik Picture Library.
The works showcased include ‘Redeem’ by Ashfika Rahman, ‘My Home (A Celebration of Five Days): A performance of five days’ by Tsohil Bhatia, ‘Famjam Excerpt’ by Renuka Rajiv, ‘Letters To My Father’ by Sandeep Kuriakose, ‘Dalit Masculinities’ by Anurag Minus Verma and Kinship by Javed Sultan.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, the organisers are also hosting a few programs including panel discussions both online and offline, a children’s workshop, and two film screenings to discuss current visions of masculinity across the gender spectrum in Bangladesh through various cultural and educational activities.
There was a panel discussion on deconstructing ‘deshi’ masculinities at 5:00pm on Saturday. Screening of the films ‘The Last Post Office’ and ‘Cat Sticks’ will be taking place on August 26 from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
Later, an online discussion with filmmakers Aung Rakhine (‘The Last Post Office’) and Ronny Sen (‘Cat Sticks’) will be held on masculinity and film between independent filmmakers across two countries. The workshop with children will be held on August 27. The exhibition will end with a cultural event and a closing ceremony on the last day.
The exhibition is open to all every day on the second floor of DrikPath Bhobon from 3:00pm to 8:00pm.
