Reciting troupe Swanan has organised a special programme ‘Pita Chiranjib Tumi, Agnipurush’ on 26 August at Begum Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum to commemorate Bangladesh’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members, who were assassinated on August 15, 1975.

Planned by Rupa Chakrabarti, the programme featured recitation along with dance choreography. Pro-vice-chancellor of Dhaka University professor Dr Muhammad Samad was present at the event as the chief guest.

Jayanto Chattopadhyay, Bhaskar Bandyopadhyay, and Rupa Chakrabarti recited some selected sections from ‘Asampta Atmajiboni’ (The Unfinished Memoirs) and ‘Karagarer Rojnamcha’ (The Prison Diaries) written by Bangabandhu. Along with the recitation, six dance groups Nritya Lok Cultural Center, Nrityaon, Artistry, Bangladesh Gouri Nritya Academy, Rumjhum Nrityaloy, and Kathak Nritya Sampraday staged dance performances.

“We had to work hard to conduct the programme. Yet, the fact that is giving my mind a feeling of peace is that the event has finally turned into a momentous witnessed by the audience. Thanks to those who have supported us since then. Thanks to Jayanta dada and all members of Swanan,” said Rupa Chakrabarti.

In the last part of the programme, as Jayanto Chattopadhyay and Rupa Chakrabarti recited, Bandhan’s dance performance under Saju Ahmed’s direction mesmerised the audience. Maliha, Purno, Imama and Prakriti also performed at the event.

The event can be considered a landmark as no recital organisation in Bangladesh had ever presented Bangabandhu through reading, recitation, and choreography in this way.
