Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh won the Best Actor in a Lead Role (Male) award for his cricket drama ‘83’, while Kriti Sanon bagged the Best Actor in a Lead Role (female) award for ‘Mimi’, at the 67th Filmfare Awards for 2022 in Mumbai on Tuesday night, reports The Indian Express. The awards ceremony saw the coming together of the entire Hindi film industry under a roof.
Helmed by Kabir Khan, ‘83’ revolves around India’s historical 1983 Cricket World Cup win. The movie features Ranveer as Kapil Dev, captain of the World Cup-winning team.
Kriti Sanon was honoured for her performance in ‘Mimi’, which was released in 2021. The three films which emerged as the big winners of the evening were Kriti Sanon starrer ‘Mimi,’ Vicky Kaushal-led ‘Sardar Udham’ and Sidharth Malhotra’s ‘Shershaah’.
All three films that grabbed the highest number of awards were OTT releases. ‘Mimi’ revolved around a small-town girl from Rajasthan, played by Sanon, who gets offered Rs 20 lakh to act as a surrogate for an American couple. The middleman was played by Pankaj Tripathi. Though the film couldn’t impress the film critics, it did intrigue the audience. The film had a digital release on Netflix.
‘Sardar Udham,’ helmed by Shoojit Sircar, was loved by the audience and film critics alike. It was based on the story of ‘revolutionary’ Udham Singh who avenged the massacre of Jallianwala Bagh by shooting Michael O’Dwyer in London, in March 1940.
‘Shershaah,’ produced by Karan Johar, became one of the most viewed films on Amazon Prime Video. The film featured Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani in the lead roles.
