Chanchal to screen test for ‘Paatal Lok’

Bangladeshi acclaimed actor Chanchal Chowdhury has been contacted by the casting team of the Amazon Prime original series ‘Paatal Lok’ for its second season, according to media reports.

The actor told the press that the casting agency behind the critically acclaimed TV series recently contacted him. They are in the primary stage of the negotiation for the role he has been offered.

He also said the agency has sent him some lines from the script of the series’ second season for a screen test. Chanchal has been asked to perform those lines, shoot them and send the footage. The actor is currently doing that.

He also clarified that there is a fifty per cent chance that he will ultimately get the final nod and could not discuss details due to the non-disclosure terms. Confirmation will be announced by the ‘Paatal Lok’ team if Chanchal gets selected for the role.

Few days ago, Chanchal was rumoured to star in the third ‘Munna Bhai’ film produced by Disney+ Hotstar, a popular Indian OTT platform partly owned by US-based The Walt Disney Company. Chanchal, later on, informed the media that the news was a hoax spread around social media.

Chanchal’s recent performance in Bangladeshi filmmaker Syed Ahmed Shawki’s second web series ‘Karagar,’ produced by Indian OTT platform Hoichoi has garnered praise from both critics and audiences. Renowned Indian filmmakers, actors and industry professionals also took to social media to praise the actor.

The first season of ‘Paatal Lok’ premiered on Amazon Prime Video on May 15, 2020. It was produced by Bollywood filmstar Anushka Sharma and her production company Clean Slate Filmz. The hyped series stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Gul Panag, Neeraj Kabi, Swastika Mukherjee, Ishwak Singh, and Abhishek Banerjee in central roles.

Loosely based on Tarun Tejpal’s 2010 novel ‘The Story of My Assassins,’ the series is about a disillusioned cop who lands the case of an assassination attempt gone wrong.

Acclaimed Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and many popular Bollywood filmmakers and film critics have dubbed the series as the ‘best Hindi language web series ever.’ The series was listed in the ‘Top 10 Indian Web Series of 2020,’ by The Indian Express. Hollywood-based Variety magazine listed ‘Paatal Lok’ as one of the ‘Best international TV shows of 2020.’
