Former members serve legal notice on Artcell

Two former members of popular Bangladeshi band Artcell, have sent a legal notice to three members of the band for using their song without any consent.

The notice is sent to vocalist George Lincoln D’Costa, guitarist Saef Al Nazi and drummer Kazi Sazzadul Asheqeen by guitarist Ershad Zaman and lyricist Rumman Ahmed. According to the notice, the band has violated Section 71 of the Copyright Act 2000 (as amended in 2005).

As stated in the legal notice, 7 of the 10 songs on the band’s first album, ‘Onno Shomoy’, were written by Rumman Ahmed. Additionally, seven songs from the album ‘Oniket Prantor’ have lyrics penned by the lyricist Rumman Ahmed and Ershad Zaman as well.

Rumman has also written songs for mixed albums for Artcell including- ‘Opshori’ from ‘Onushilon’, ‘Ostitter Dike Pododdhonir Shommohon’ from ‘Agontuk 1’, ‘Chile Kothar Shepai’ from ‘Agontuk-2’, ‘Bangladesh Sriti O Amra’ from ‘Agontuk 3’, and ‘Chera Akash’ from the album ‘Lokayoto’.

Ershad Zaman wrote the lyrics for the song ‘Ei Bidaye’ from the album ‘Live Now’. He has also written the lyrics for ‘Shongshoy’ and ‘Haranor gaan’ as well.

Previously, Ershad Zaman and Rumman Ahmed had sent notice to the band, but the band members apparently disregarded it. The former members might file a copyright case against the band if the band keeps ignoring the notice.
