Today marks the 26th death anniversary of the iconic hero of the country’s film industry, Salman Shah. On this day in 1996, he left this earth leaving his numerous fans trembling and sobbing in tears. It has been 26 years since he passed away, but the hero of everyone’s dreams is still alive in the hearts of the fans.
With only 27 films in a four-year career, Salman Shah made a tremendous impact on the country’s film industry as well as successfully created a vast fan base with his stellar performance on the big screen.
His original name was Shahriar Chowdhury Emon. Afterwards, when he came into the film industry he adopted the name, Salman Shah. He was born on 29 September 1970 in Sylhet. His father’s name is Komar Uddin Chowdhury and his mother’s name is Neela Chowdhury. He was the eldest son of the family. Salman Shah got married on August 12, 1992. His wife’s name is Samira. His film career was associated first with actress Moushumi and then Shabnaz, Shabnur, Lima and Shilpi.
Moushumi
I want to forget this day but I can’t. It just seems that if Salman were alive today, people would not have been disappointed in Bangladeshi films.
We had a relationship like friends. We used to have a lot of fun whenever we met. He was a very emotional boy. One day during the shooting, he felt that he will not shoot today. He said to me, friend, I will not shoot, please pack up the shooting. I said I have to shoot today or the schedule will be messed up. He didn’t tell me anything. After some time, I saw Salman coming out of the washroom and his hands are bleeding. We all ran to him. He said he slipped in the bathroom and cut his hand. Then the shooting had to be stopped. Later I heard that he had cut his hand with a blade. Even after so many years today, it’s not possible to forget him. I will never forget him. I am grateful to Salman Shah for his contribution to my film career. I always miss him.

I acted with Salman Shah in four films. Among these, I played the role of his mother in two films. He respected me. While we were in shooting in Cox’s Bazar for the film ‘Mahamilan’ by Dilip Shom, I forgot to bring my chair from the hotel. This movie was shot in Cox’s Bazar. A scene was being shot on a hill. I had a pistol in my hand. Rajeeb, Salman Shah, Shabnoor and I, participated in the shooting of the scene. During that shoot, I sat on a simple chair brought to the shoot by the production team. Salman noticed this immediately and kindly gifted me his own chair that he took from our hotel.
Then when cell phones hit the market first, at that time the size of mobile was very big. So, I could not use that mobile. It was Salman who first taught me how to use a mobile phone. Through a note, he instructed me how to use a mobile. Because of that, it became quite easy for me to use a mobile phone. I still have that note written by Salman. Sometimes I find our lost Salman on that note.
Salman used to tell me that you are not my own mother but you are my sweet mother. He used to call me nothing but mother. Even after all these years, I get very emotional when I talk about him.
Shabnaz
Naim and I were supposed to act in the film ‘Keyamat Theke Kayemat’, but since our film ‘Chandni’ was a hit, we didn’t do it. Then the director cast Salman Shah and Moushumi in that film and we were very happy that the film industry got a new pair with this movie. We attended the Muharat event of the film ‘Kayamat Theke Keyamat’ to welcome the new pair.
Salman took the Bangladeshi film industry one step forward. During the shooting, Salman never called me Apu rather he used to call me ‘bhabi’, and gave me that respect. Feelings for Salman Shah are still in my mind, and always will be. May Salman’s soul rest in peace.

I first acted with Salman Shah in a teledrama called ‘Swapner Prithibi’. Salman Shah was an incredibly talented artist. He was a wonderful man and his behaviour was excellent. Wishing him peace.
To tell you the truth, the emptiness created by Salman’s departure has not been filled yet, and will not be filled. Some emptiness can never be fulfilled.
