Renowned Bangladeshi musician, film director, producer and lyricist Gazi Mazharul Anwar will be remembered today at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the capital. Geetikabi Sangha Bangladesh, in association with BSA, has organised the commemorative event.
Presided over by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, Information and Broadcast Minister Hasan Mahmud will attend the event as chief guest.
Geetikabi Sangha Acting President Liton Adhikari Rintu, General Secretary Asif Iqbal, and Organizing Secretary Zulfiqar Russell will attend the event.
The commemorative programme singers Sheikh Sadi Khan, Khurshid Alam, Sabina Yasmin, Abida Sultana, Rafiqul Alam, Kanak Chapa, Rumana Islam, Agun, Robi Chowdhury, Monir Khan, Anupona Mukti, Apu Aman, Sabbir, Yousuf Ahmed Khan, Sharif Raj Kumar, actors Anjana, Omar Sani, among others will recall their memories on Gazi Mazharul Anwar.
The programme will be also attended by Gazi Mazharul Anwar’s Widow Johra Gazi, son Upol and daughter Dithi Anwar, publisher of Gazi Mazharul Anwar’s book ‘Olpo Kothar Golpo Gaan’ Khandakar Monirul Islam and others.
The second part of Gazi Mazharul Anwar’s book ‘Olpo Kothar Golpo Gaan’ will be published at the ‘Bangladesh Book Fair’ which is going to start in Kolkata on September 16.
“In the past few days, I have noticed that the people of Bangladesh loved my father so much. Our family is grateful to the Bangladesh government because the government has duly honoured my father. I humbly request everyone to participate in today’s event,” said Mazharul’s son Upol.
Dithi Anwar said, “We are grateful to the people of the country. The people of this country have shown the highest respect and honour to my father. I am seeking everyone’s prayer so that may Allah grant my father in Zannat. I am requesting to all especially the artistes to attend the event and recall my father’s contribution.”
Gazi Mazharul Anwar was born on February 22, 1943. He wrote numerous popular songs about freedom and patriotism.
He received Bangladesh Ekushey Padak in 2002 and Independence Award in 2021. He received the Bangladesh National Film Award six times.
