Bangabandhu biopic to be released this year: Information minister

Information and Broadcasting minister Hasan Mahmud told the press that he is hopeful that the film ‘Mujib: The Making of a Nation’, a biopic on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be released within this year. The minister said this to journalists at the Secretariat yesterday, after a meeting with Ambassador Vikram K Doraiswami, the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh.

Hasan said, “The biopic on Bangabandhu is now ready. We are hoping to release it within this year after the Prime Minister watches it and gives the final approval.”

The trailer of the joint venture of Bangladesh-India directed by veteran Indian director Shyam Benegal premiered at Cannes Film Festival on May 19. Audience response to the trailer has been mostly negative, with criticism aimed towards the performance of the leads, make-up, visual effects, and historical inaccuracies.

The trailer of ‘Mujib: The Making of a Nation,’ is available on the official YouTube channel of NFDC India.

The film is an India-Bangladesh co-production on the life of Bangabandhu under the audio-visual co-production agreement between the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India, and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Bangladesh.

It is co-produced by India’s National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC).

The main cast includes Arifin Shuvoo in the titular role, Nusrat Imrose Tisha as Rahman’s wife Sheikh Fazilatunnesa, and Nusraat Faria as their daughter Sheikh Hasina. Also, veteran actor Dilara Jaman will play the role of Bangbandhu’s mother Sahera Khatun, actor Khairul Alam Sabuj will portray the role of Bangabandhu’s father Sheikh Lutfor Rahman, Shahidul Alam Sachchu as Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq, Riaz Ahmed as Tajuddin Ahmed, Tauquir Ahmed as Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy, Tushar Khan as Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah, Fazlur Rahman Babu as Khandakar Moshtaq Ahmed and Misha Sawdagor as Aiyub Khan, among others.
