‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ famed Bangladeshi actress Azmeri Haque Badhan will make her debut on Bangladeshi OTT platform by acting in a Chorki original series titled ‘Guti’ directed by Shankha Dasgupta.
This will be the first collaboration between Badhan and Shankha Dasgupta and also their first project with Chorki.
Badhan said, “The project is going to be very challenging for me. I am actually very happy and grateful that Chorki has a female lead for this production.”
When asked about the story of ‘Guti’, she said, “Shankha did a brilliant job with its script. He is a very brilliant director. He wants to bring a completely different plot, different characters, and a different kind of story. Here, I played the role of a drug dealer named Sultana. I have been talking to Sankha about the character for a long time and developing it. We even talked at great length about the character’s costume so that we can perfectly portray it.”
Badhan said to the audience, “I really don’t want to hear that female leads don’t work in Bangladesh. I was very heartbroken when I heard this from the audience. But I believe this perception will change in the next 1 to 2 years. We can change this public perception through our work. We can also give something new to the audience.”
‘Guti’ director Shankha Dasgupta said, “This is the first project of mine with Chorki and we are taking the last-minute preparation for the shoot. We are very excited about this project’s production. We are regularly hosting rehearsals with the cast members.”
The seven-episode-long web series is expected to be released by end of this year while the shooting will be starting at the end of September.
Badhan joined the rehearsal of the untitled project just after returning from India.
Earlier in August Badhan visited India to finish Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Khufiya’ where she plays the role of a Bangladeshi woman. She returned to Bangladesh on September 5. The film is expected to release on Netflix by the end of this year.
