Khona Talkies, the production company of internationally acclaimed filmmaker Rubaiyat Hossain, has announced a casting call for their upcoming feature film ‘Sand City,’ according to a recent post on its official Facebook page. Interested participants can send in their portfolios to be shortlisted for the screen test.
‘Sand City,’ directed and written by internationally acclaimed director Mahde Hasan, is an international co-production between Khona Talkies, Cinema Cocoon, and Les Films de l’Après-Midi. The film will be produced by Rubaiyat Hossain, Aadnan Imtiaz Ahmed, and François D’artemare.
The film’s logline reads- “A monk, a materialist young man and an ethnic minority woman are connected through the unstable element of sand as they exist through a web of fantasy, spiritual practices and repressed sexuality in the ruthless metropolis of Dhaka.”
Script of young director Mahde Hasan’s debut feature film, ‘Sand City,’ was selected for La Fabrique Cinéma 2019 at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. After Kamar Ahmed Simon’s ‘Shonkhodhoni,’ this was the second time a Bangladeshi filmmaker and his screenplay were chosen for this highly competitive event.
Mahde’s most recent short film ‘A Boring Film’ was selected in the Pardi di domani International Competition of Locarno Film Festival 2020. It was the first film from Bangladesh to compete in the official competition segment of the prestigious Locarno Film Festival.
