Bangladeshi filmmaker Mohammad Rabby Mridha’s feature film ‘Payer Tolay Mati Nai’ (No Ground Beneath the Feet) has won the Fipresci-India Critics Award for the ‘Best Debut Feature Film’ at the first edition of the World Film Festival Kolkata.

Out of the 11 films from different countries, four films were chosen for this where Mridha’s ‘Payer Tolay Mati Nai’ was selected as the winner.

On the closing day of the festival, Bangladeshi actress Jyotika Jyoti accepted the award on behalf of the director, Mohammad Rabby Mridha and its producer Abu Shahed Emon.

The festival commenced on September 20 and ran till September 25, at Nandan Cultural Centre in Kolkata.

The film also received an uncut clearance from the Bangladesh Film Censor Board (BFCB) recently. ‘Payer Tolay Mati Nai’ has already been showcased in Busan (Korea), Bengaluru, Pune, Sri Lanka, Japan, Nepal, Austria and London. It has also been screened at 14 prestigious film festivals across the globe, including Canada and Australia.

World Film Festival Kolkata was organised by the Federation of Film Societies of India (Eastern Region) in collaboration with the International Federation of Film Societies (IFFS) (Asia-Pacific region) and showcased 29 films from all over the world. Jaya Ahsan was present as the chief guest at the event.

To pay tribute to 50 Years of the Liberation War of Bangladesh, the first World Film Festival Kolkata presented Bangladesh as the Country Focus showcasing Bangladeshi films- ‘Payer Tolay Mati Nai,’ Amitabh Reza Chowdhury’s ‘Rickshaw Girl’, Nurul Alam Atique’s ‘Laal Moroger Jhuti’, Masud Pathik’s ‘Maya - The Lost Mother’ and Senjutee Suborna Tushee’s ‘Ripples’ for the first time in Kolkata.
