‘Lalon’- a monologue written by Anisur Rahman is an international production by Tea Theatre Dhaka and Nagorik Nattyangon Bangladesh. It is a monologue suitable for production on radio, television and theatre stage. The first of the production was staged at Kabita Café of Katabon in the capital on October 5. The second show will be staged in February next year.
Lalon, born in Bangladesh in the 18th century, is a spiritual Baul saint, modern social reformer and philosopher of united Bengal and India. He practised different paradigms of humanism. He removed all kinds of differences in terms of religion, caste, and race and gave people the highest place. The songs written by him are the manifestation of such a world of thought. Anisur Rohman has highlighted Lalon’s mind in this monologue.
Hridi Huq and Jewel Zahur have directed and acted in this production, while Dildar Hossain has worked as a production advisor.
Director Jewel Zahur said for the production, “The name ‘Lalon’ itself teaches us to think of another world, where there is nothing more about people and humanity. Being able to find the real person as a human being is a matter of serenity. It is a respect for us as theatre professionals at the same time it is a difficult and challenging task to present Lalon on a theatre stage.”
“My very well-wisher and respected Bangkabi Dildar Hossain has always supported me on this difficult journey. I got full support for this production from theatre colleagues and friends at Nagorik Nattyangon director Hridi Huq and actor Kamruzzaman Roni”, he added.
International partners for the production are- Theatre Upplitt Sweden; One World Theatre Nepal; and Kistrech Theatre International Kenya.
Anisur Rahman presented Lalon in his manuscript as a simple piece of the creative literary piece after research. All this has led us to present this production to commemorate Lalon and humanity.
