Renowned Indian musician Kabir Suman will perform in Dhaka after almost 13 years. To reveal the details of the event ‘Kabir Suman Live in Dhaka’, the organisers arranged a press conference on Wednesday at the capital’s Bishwa Sahitya Kendra.
The musician reached Bangladesh on Thursday and will be performing on October 15, 18, and 21 at the main auditorium of the Bangladesh National Museum.
Though Kabir Suman was not present at the event physically but he sent a video message to express his gratitude towards the Bangladeshi government, the organising committee, and to his fans. However, Peephole executives Fuad Bin Omar and Mir Arif Billah were present at the press conference among others.
In the video message, the musician expressed his happiness as he came to know that the young Bangladeshi audience are still very interested to attend his shows. The tickets for all three events have already been sold out.
Suman said, “Many think that Suman means ‘Tomake Chai’ but I’ve done many other works too”. Suman is currently working on ‘Bangla Khayal’ for a long time and believes that it is his best work till now. He also expressed his gratitude towards the organisers to book him for singing ‘Bangla Khayal’.
“Khayal is something very different from the language we hear in songs. My father used to say that don’t sing Khayal on stage before 40. However, things have changed now. People now sing ‘Khayal’ from a very early age and have titles before their names too but I don’t have anything before my name,” the musician continued.
Bangla Khayal has now reached more than 600 in numbers. He also remembered Bangladesh’s eminent Khayal artist, Azad Rahman in his video. The show of modern Bangla ‘Khayal’ will be on October 18. However, he will not be playing the guitar because of his carpal tunnel and said he will be playing a keyboard while singing.
Organized by Peephole the event is sponsored by Bengal Classic Tea and Paramount Group.
