Ekta Kapoor, believed to be India’s soap opera queen and the daughter of Bollywood legend Jeetendra, is recently in hot water. She has been slammed by the Supreme Court for portraying ‘objectionable content’ in her recent web series ‘XXX’.
The top court said she was polluting the minds of the young generation of India.
There is an arrest warrant against her issued by a trial court in Bihar’s Begusarai town.
The warrant was issued on a complaint lodged by Shambhu Kumar, an ex-serviceman.
Kumar, in his complaint of 2020, alleged series ‘XXX’ (Season-2) featured several offensive scenes concerning a soldier’s wife.
It said she was insulting soldiers and hurting the feelings of their families in the web series aired on her OTT platform ALTBalaji.
The top court made the remarks while hearing a petition challenging the issuance of arrest warrants for the producer in connection with allegedly denigrating soldiers and hurting the sentiments of their kin by airing a web series on OTT medium ALT Balaji, according to Mint.
“Something has to be done. You are polluting the minds of the young generation of this country. It is available to all. OTT (Over The Top) content is available to all. What kind of choice are you providing to the people?….on the contrary you are polluting the minds of youngsters,” a bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and CT Ravikumar said.
A petition has been filed before the Patna High Court but there is no hope the matter will be listed for hearing soon.
Kapoor has been the de facto queen of Indian TV serials, ruling prime-time television with “saas-bahu” (mother-in-law and daughter-in-law) soaps.
