BSA hosts drawing competition ahead of Sheikh Russel Day

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) organised a nationwide children’s drawing competition titled ‘Sheikh Russel Dipto Joyollash Adamya Attobishwas’ as a part of their celebration event ahead of the 59th birthday of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. BSA inaugurated the competition in collaboration with their Department of Fine Arts at the sculpture gallery of Jatiya Chitrashala at the capital yesterday. The topic of the drawing competition was also ‘Sheikh Russel Dipto Joyullash Adamya Atmabishwas’.

The competition was held in three categories--category ‘Ka’ for 5-8 years; category ‘Kha’ for 9-12 years; and category ‘Ga’ for 13-18 years.

The winners of each category from all over the nation will be awarded at the academy premises on Sheikh Russell Day, today.

Artists Abul Barak Alvi, Abdul Mannan, and Mini Karim are judges in the competition. Prize winners will be given drawing materials and published books on Sheikh Russel.

Sheikh Russel, also the youngest brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born on October 18 in 1964 at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi road number 32 in the capital.

But he was brutally assassinated along with most of his family members, including his father Bangabandhu, on August 15, 1975, when he was a student of class four at University Laboratory School.

The Cabinet Division last year declared October 18, the birthday of Sheikh Russel, as Sheikh Russel Day.
