National Film Award-winning actress Sunerah Binte Kamal has recently turned down her contract in the the government-granted Liberation War-based film ‘Joy Banglar Dhoni.’ The ‘No Dorai’ famed actress informed her decision to the press on Thursday evening.
‘Joy Banglar Dhoni’ is written by Freedom Fighter, Awami League Presidium Member and Member of Parliament Shajahan Khan who was also the minister of shipping from 2009 to 2019. Recent reports suggest that he will also do a cameo in the film. The film will be directed by Kha Ma Khurshid.
About her recent decision, Sunerah said, “I am not doing the film. It’s not the kind of story I can work on. I asked to change the lineup. The director did that too. However, it still seems to me that it is not going to happen. I am not saying the script is bad, it is a very good story. But, it’s not for me.”
“I will also return the signing money soon. Yet, the director is now pressuring me that I have to do the film. Now, in these conditions, it is impossible for me to be attached to that project.”
Moreover, Shahjahan Khan and the film’s team held a press conference at the capital on Thursday afternoon, before Sunerah’s statement. The film’s director Kha Ma Khurshid, Shahjahan Khan and two other central characters— Nirob Hossain and veteran actor and MP Asaduzzaman Noor were present at the event.
The director said at the event, “Asaduzzaman Noor is a popular and well-respected actor in our country. I am very glad to have him in my movie. He will act as Shambhu Razakar (war criminal) in this movie. Hopefully, his fans will enjoy his character in the film.”
‘Joy Banglar Dhoni’ received the government film grant for the fiscal year 2021-2022 and is scheduled to start its production soon.
