Today is the birthday of the popular National Film award-winning actor, Riaz Ahmed. The noted actor who has paired up with almost all the popular actresses and marked an important place in the Bangladeshi entertainment industry is also celebrating his 27 years long acting career.
On his birthday, popular Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed wished him and also recalled the memory of the start of his acting career when his parents were convinced of his acting career because of Riaz.
“If Riaz hadn’t started acting after the death of Salman Shah, my journey as an actor wouldn’t even start. My parents knew Riaz very well. It was because of Riaz that I got the courage to approach my parents to pursue acting as a career. I went to them and said, if Riaz can do acting, so what would be the problem if I act too? After that, my parents never stopped me from pursuing acting,” said Ferdous.
“I still feel good to say that because of Riaz I showed the courage to pursue acting as my career. I knew Riaz way before I started acting. I started at the same time as Riaz and Shakil started their journey in the entertainment industry. We were like brothers. We spent a lot of time together back then. Today is his birthday. I wish him a happy birthday and I will always be grateful to him, “ he added.
Riaz briefly served in the Bangladesh Air Force before joining the film industry.
He was at the Bangladesh Air Force Academy from 1989 to 1991 for flying training and to earn his bachelor’s degree from Rajshahi University in science. He was commissioned as a pilot officer and became a fighter pilot in the Bangladesh Air Force in 1991. However, he was dismissed from the air force in 1993. He had been promoted to Flying Officer rank.
After his withdrawal from the BAF, Riaz moved to Dhaka in 1994. He then met his cousin, actress Bobita, and started his film career in 1995.
Born in 1972 to an aristocratic Muslim family in Faridpur, Riaz debuted on the silver screen with a side role in Dewan Nazrul’s social action drama ‘Banglar Nayok’ in 1995.
In 2005, Riaz also worked with Bollywood actress Susmita Sen for Mahesh Manjrekar’s film ‘It Was Raining That Night’. Riaz has also received numerous awards in his film career, including three National Film Awards.
