The fourth edition of the Bangladesh Film Festival in Kolkata is set to begin tomorrow at Nandan, a senior diplomat of the neighbouring country told PTI on Wednesday (27 October). Recent local blockbusters like ‘Hawa’ and ‘Poran’ will be screened during the festival.
Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner to India Andalib Elias told the press that a total of 37 films and documentaries would be screened at the five-day event which will conclude on November 2.
“This will be the fourth year of us organising the Bangladesh Film Festival in Kolkata. We have received excellent feedback in the previous editions. Around 37 films will be screened this year. The festival will start on October 29 and end on November 2,” Elias told Times of India.
The festival’s first film is ‘Hawa’, a mystery drama directed by acclaimed Bangladeshi filmmaker and musician Mejbaur Rahman Sumon.
This year, the honourable Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Dr Hasan Mahmud, MP will be present at the inaugural event as the chief guest. Renowned singer and honourable acting Minister of Tourism of West Bengal, Babul Supriyo will also be present at the programme as the special guest. Internationally acclaimed Indian filmmaker Goutam Ghose will attend the inaugural event as a special guest.
Under the initiative of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and managed by the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, Kolkata; the programme will feature 25 full-length films, four documentary films and eight short films.
According to the organisers, this film festival has brought two sides of Bengal closer together. Last year, the Bangladesh Film Festival was organised at Nandan-1. There, 32 popular films from Bangladesh were screened at the festival.
This year, films including the likes of ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’, ‘Hawa’, ‘Paap Punyo’, ‘Laal Moroger Jhuti’, ‘Nonajoler Kabbo’, ‘Poran’, ‘Payer Tolay Mati Nai’, ‘Beauty Circus’, ‘Chandraboti Kotha’, ‘Hridita’, ‘Kalbela’, ‘Chironjib Mujib’, ‘Raat Jaga Phool’, ‘Golui’, ‘Gondi’, and ‘Bishwoshundori’, among others will be featured at the event.
The Bangladesh Film Festival in Kolkata has been held for four consecutive years. Even an epidemic could not hinder this festival. This year’s event will take place at Nandan West Bengal Film Centre, Kolkata until November 2.
