Curtain falls on 12th edition of ‘Ganga Jamuna Cultural Festival’ today

The curtain will fall on the 12th edition of the ‘Ganga Jamuna Cultural Festival’ today. The closing ceremony of the 11-day-long festival will be held at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha in the capital.

Presided over by the convener of Ganga Jamuna Shangskritik Parshod, Ghulam Kuddus, Cultural Affairs Ministry’s Secretary Md Abul Monsur will attend the ceremony as chief guest, while vice-president of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote Jhuna Chowdhury, Bangladesh Nrityashilpi Sangstha president Minu Haque, Bangladesh Abritti Samannay Parishad member Rafiqul Islam will be present as guest of honour.

This year more than four thousand artistes from 122 cultural organisations in Bangladesh and India took part in the festival. The festival features theatrical plays, jatra palas, music, recitation programmes, dance performances and street plays.

Three plays were staged at BSA at 7pm while one play was staged at Dr. Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samity at 7pm every day throughout the festival. 

Along with theatres, street plays, music performances, recitations and dance performances were held at the open stage at the festival venue every day from 4:00pm to 6:30pm. 

Today, on the closing day, the theatre troupe Loko Natyadal will stage its 19th production titled ‘Toposhi O Torongini’ at the National Theatre Hall of BSA. Liaquat Ali Lucky directed the play, which was originally written by Buddhadeb Basu in 1966.

Theatre troupe Nattokendra will stage its production titled ‘Punnah’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA, while Ethik Theatre will stage its production ‘Rajadhrohi’ at the Studio Theatre Hall of BSA.

On the other hand, Kothakoli Sylhet will stage its production ‘Che’r Cycle’ at the Mahila Samiti Mancha as a closing play of the festival.

Ganga-Jamuna Sangskritik Utsab Parishad has arranged the festival in collaboration with the Cultural Affairs Ministry of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and IFIC Limited.
