‘Sisimpur’ brings books for visually impaired children

Popular children’s show ‘Sisimpur’ has taken an initiative to publish the ‘Sisimpur’ series of special edition books for visually impaired children. Ten of the most popular books of ‘Sisimpur’ will be published in braille.

The braille editions will be published by the Sporsho Foundation, and the books will be distributed free of charge at schools for visually impaired children.

Apart from that, the braille edition of Sisimpur will be available at the book fairs too.

An agreement has been signed on this matter between Sisimpur and the Sporsho Foundation at the office of Sesame Workshop Bangladesh recently. The agreement was signed by Mohammad Shah Alam, the country Managing Director of the organization, on behalf of Sisimpur, and Nazia Jabeen, the founder and president of the organization, on behalf of the Sporsho Foundation.

Mohammad Shah Alam said, “Sisimpur wants to reach all the children of Bangladesh. We took another step towards that goal by publishing Braille books.”

Sisimpur is very popular among local children and has been continuously broadcast on BTV since April 15, 2005.

‘Sisimpur’ is the Bangladeshi version of popular US children’s show ‘Sesame Street.’ USAID committed US$7 million in funding over the first three years. It is Bangladesh’s first children’s educational program and was expected to be seen by 4 million children in its first two years. The creation of ‘Sisimpur’ in Bangladesh was described in detail in the 2005 award-winning documentary ‘The World According to Sesame Street.
