‘The Difficult Bride’ wins €50,000 grant

Bangladeshi filmmaker Rubaiyat Hossain won 50,000 Euro (BDT 53 lakh) grant from the 37th Berlin World Cinema Fund. The filmmaker received the grant for the next film titled ‘The Difficult Bride’. The news has been confirmed by the official website of the Berlin International Film Festival.

‘The Difficult Bride’ is a supernatural film that revolves around the psychological journey of a bride-to-be who has to deal with the pressures of marriage. The film has been produced by Khona Talkies. The shooting of the film is expected to start in September of next year.

However, the filmmaker will now be applying for grants in France, Sweden, Denmark, and Bangladesh.

Rubaiyat Hossain is a Bangladeshi film director, writer, and producer. She also made ‘Meherjaan’ in 2011, ‘Under Construction’ in 2015 and ‘Made in Bangladesh’ in2019.

Her works reflect social realism and use a feminist lens to deconstruct the otherwise phallocentric institution of cinema.

The Berlin World Cinema Fund received submissions for a total of 176 films from 51 countries, of which only 11 were selected by the judges.
