Dilara Zaman: When I knew Omar Faruk’s mother is alive, I met her

The premiere show of Zahidur Rahman Biplob’s government-granted short film ‘Omar Faruk-er Ma’ will take place at Bangladesh Film Archive on December 3. The screening will start at 5 pm.

Written by director himself, the script of the film has been written by Masum Reza. Prominent actress Dilara Zaman played the lead role in the short film. The story of the film revolves around the mother of the martyred freedom fighter of Pirojpur, Omar Faruk.

Martyred freedom-fighter Omar Faruk’s mother is still alive but in poor health, and she lives in Pirojpur.

Dilara Zaman said, “When I came to know that Omar Faruk’s mother is alive, I went to meet her. She can’t speak. She kept touching me. That memory is still glowing in my mind. And when I did shooting for the film I was crying in front of the camera and everyone was crying behind the camera. The filmmaker has put a lot of effort to make the film. Many prayers for him.”

Omar Faruk was a freedom fighter from Pirojpur, who was the first one to hang the flag of independent Bangladesh in that district. Since 1971, Omar’s mother has been waiting for her dear child to return from war, because he left after making a promise. The promise was that he will return and have supper. Therefore his mother still cooks rice for him and some extra portions for any friends he might bring.

Along with Dilara Zaman the short film also casts, Khairul Alam Sabuj, Naznin Chumki, Shahed Sharif Khan, Kazi Razu, Sayeed Babu, and others.

The film got Tk 10 lakh as a grant from the government. The rest of the investment has been done by the director himself.
