Kangalini Sufia to sing original song

‘Poraner Bandhob Re Buri Hoilam Tore Karone’ famed popular folk singer Kangalini Sufia is giving her voice to a new original song after a long time. Ovi Moinuddin has written and composed a new folk song for her. The music direction of the song will be done by Yousuf Ahmed.

On Monday Ovi Moinuddin met Kangalini Sufia and her daughter Pushpa at Bangla Academy and sang some lines of the song written by him for Kangalini Sufia. Sufia likes the lyrics and gave her consent to sing the song.

Kangalini Sufia said, “I met and talked with Ovi on Monday. Ovi has taken the initiative to make new original songs for me. We talk about music while having lunch at Shahbag. Ovi wrote the lyrics and composed the music while sitting there. I liked the lyrics. Yousuf directed a music video for a song of mine a few days ago. I like him. Hopefully, I’m going to get another new good original song with lyrics by Ovi and Yousuf.”

Ovi Moinuddin said, “I’m not regular either written or composed song. But while talking to respected Kangalini Sufiya Apa, the lyrics and tunes of the songs generated automatically in my mind. After singing the song to her, she also expressed interest in singing. The recording of the song will be completed within this month InshaAllah.”

Sufia was born in 1948 in greater Faridpur. At the age of 15, she began singing at village functions. Around 1974, she converted to Islam and took on the name Sufia Khatun. Artist Mustafa Monwar christened her ‘Kangalini Sufia’.

Sufia has some of the most popular folk songs to her credit including ‘Poraner Bandhob Re, Buri Hoilam Tor Karone’, ‘Konba Pothey Nitaigonje Jai’ and ‘Amra Nari Koto Koshto Kori’. She was also a playback singer for the films, Darodi Shatru, Agun, and Raj Shinghashon.

Kangalini Sufia has received around 30 national awards including the Shilpakala Padak in 2017. She also has 10 international awards to her credit.
