‘Adim’ gets uncut censor clearance

Juboraj Shamim-directed internationally acclaimed film ‘Adim’ finally secured uncut censor clearance from the Bangladesh Film Censor Board. The makers are now preparing for the release of the movie.

“The film actually received the censor certificate on December 6 which I didn’t know. In between, the board had multiple discussions on with me and also gave me some unofficial observations. I was unsure whether I’ll get the censor or not. Then I decided to visit the board and found out the fact that I received the certificate,” said the director.

However, it was both a pleasant and hard experience for Juboraj Shamim as he received mixed reviews from the board members. He had to show the logic behind some of the scenes in the film.

Although the release date is yet to be fixed, the makers have applied for a date. They are yet to decide on how many cinema halls they will release the movie in. But, some of the hall owners already showed their interest to run the film, said the makers.

“I was really nervous about whether to get the uncut certificate. I was not in a position to accept cutting any of the scenes as it is me who knows how I want to show the film to my audience. So, as I received the uncut certificate I’m really happy now,” said the director.

The crowd-funded film portrays the struggles of slum dwellers at Tongi, on the outskirts of Dhaka. The film stars people living in a slum there.

The film will be taking the audience on a hyper-realistic journey of the slum blurring the line between fact and fiction.

The film ‘Adim’ won the prestigious NETPAC jury Award at the 44th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) in September.

Later the film won the ‘Best of the Fest’ award at the 12th Queens World Film Festival in Queens, New York, USA in November.
