Three Bangladeshi films will be screened at the 28th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF). The films are Mejbaur Rahman Sumon directorial ‘Hawa’, Muhammad Quayum directorial ‘Kura Pokkhir Shunne Ura’ and Fakhrul Arefeen Khan’s ‘JK 1971’.
Gautam Ghosh’s documentary on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, ‘Bangabandhu in Calcutta’, will also be shown at this festival.
The festival is set to take place in Kolkata from December 15 to December 22. 183 films from 42 countries will be screened in this film festival, which will be held across 10 venues.
According to the schedule compiled by the festival organisers, the Mejbaur Rahman Sumon directorial ‘Hawa’ will be screening on December 16 at 7:00 in Nandan 1 while ‘JK 1971’ directed by Fakhrul Arefeen Khan is set to be screened at 4:00 pm on December 19 at Nandan 2. Meanwhile, Muhammad Quayum’s ‘Kura Pokkhir Shunne Ura’ (The Golden Wings of Watercocks) will have two shows, the first one will take place on December 16 at Nandan-1 and the second show will be on December 21 at Nazrul Tirtha-1. The film has also been selected for the ‘International Competition: Innovation in Moving Images’ category.
Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan are the primary guests of the inauguration, along with Jaya Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Kumar Sanu, Mahesh Bhatt, and Shatrguhan Singha. The festival will open with the film ‘Abhimaan’ directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
