War-based films to be screened for free on Victory Day

Cinema halls across the country will screen six Liberation War based films and three short films or documentary for free on December 16 marking Victory Day.

The selected full-length feature films are – ‘Chiranjib Mujib’, ‘Ekjon Muktijoddha’, ‘Amar Bondhu Rashed’,  ‘Guerrilla’, ‘Aguner Poroshmoni’ and ‘Joyjatra’.

‘Chiranjib Mujib’ has highlighted the political life of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from 1949 to 1951. The story of how Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has gradually become a leader of the country and has played a strong role in the Language Movement will be shown in the film.

Humayun Ahmed adapted his own novel in 1994 and turned it into the acclaimed film ‘Aguner Poroshmoni’. Asaduzzaman Nur, Bipasha Hayat, Abul Hayat, Shila Ahmed and Doli Zahur starred in the film.

Tuqir Ahmed directed ‘Joyjatra’ in 2004, based on a story by Amzad Hossain. The movie starred Bipasha Hayat, Azizul Hakim, Mahfuz Ahmed, Humayun Faridi, Tarique Anam Khan and others.

Nasir Uddin Yousuf directed ‘Guerrilla’ in 2011. The film stars Jaya Ahsan, Ferdous, Shompa Reza and Shotabdi Wadud.

The selected short films are— ‘Bangabandhur Rajnaitik Jibon O Bangladesher Ovyudoy’, ‘Hasina: A Daughter’s Tale’ and ‘Omar Faruker Maa’.
