A photography exhibition on climate change titled ‘As You Were’ is underway at Drik Gallery. Started on December 17, the exhibition showcases photographs taken by Norwegian photographer Ørjan F. Ellingvåg.
Drik Picture Library and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka jointly organised this exhibition. Espen Rikter-Svendsen, Ambassador of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Chief Executive of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA), and Shahidul Alam, Managing Director of Drik reflected on the exhibition context at the opening day of the event. Photographer Ørjan F. Ellingvåg shared his journey on the inaugural day. “We know the damage we are inflicting, but we still carry on. It may be that we are overwhelmed, that the task at hand seems impossible. We need less noise, more space,” said Ørjan.
The photographer covered politics, finance, energy, and climate change in places such as the USA, Switzerland, and now Bangladesh for over forty years. In the years since, he has focused more of his reporting on topics related to global warming. He believes that while the effects are very much felt everywhere, we are still seemingly unable to change our behavior.
The pictures that are showcased at the exhibition are not typical disaster images, yet they all relate to climate change in one way or another. The photos tell separate stories and sometimes intersect.
The exhibition will open till 31 December, every day from 3 pm to 8 pm.
