Bangladeshi film ‘Kura Pokkhir Shunne Ura’ (The Golden Wings of Watercocks) along with Spain’s ‘Upon Entry’ bagged the Best Film award in ‘International Competition: Innovation in Moving Images’ category at the 28th edition of the prestigious Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF).
Actress Rituparna Sengupta and West Bengal power minister Aroop Biswas handed over the ‘Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Award’ at a star-studded closing ceremony on Thursday for Best Films along with a cash prize of Rs 51 lakh to filmmakers Muhammad Quayum ‘Kura Pokkhir Shunne Ura’, and Alejandro Rojas and Juan Sebastian Vasquez for ‘Upon Entry’.
The news has been published on the official website of the Kolkata International Film Festival. Muhammad Quayum wrote his timeline, “Bagged the Best Film Award jointly. I am dedicating this award to my dear friend, late Gazi Mahtab Hasan and to all the casts and crew of the film.”
The plot of this film revolves around a family from the Haor region. The film casts Ujjwal Kabir Himu, Jayita Mahalanbeesh Sumi Islam, and others in various roles. Released on November 4, the debut film of the director had only one theatre, which was the Bashundhara Star Cineplex.
This year a total of 180 films were screened out of 1,078 films submitted from 57 countries.
